Teens Living with Cancer chapters are local peer support programs for young people between the ages of 13-22 whose lives are impacted by cancer: those in current treatment, survivors of adolescent and young adult cancer, as well as siblings and friends of teen cancer patients.
A peer-led governing council plans, organizes, and coordinates all activities within each group with guidance and support from the national Board of Directors.
A peer-mentoring program connects a newly diagnosed teen with a teen who has “been there, done that”. All mentors are cancer survivors who are at least 6 months post-diagnosis and have completed a mentoring training program.
The first chapter has been established in Rochester, NY with plans to start a second group in Syracuse, NY in 2008.
